Professor Dr Muhammad Abid, Dean, Faculty of Numerical and Physical Sciences and Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Peshawar remained acting Vice Chancellor of the said University from 02-02-2017 to 06-08-2017. Earlier he remained Chairman, Department of Computer Science Peshawar Campus for 13 years and founding Director of National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences Peshawar Campus for 3 years. He served as Associate Professor in Al-Isra University, Jordan, from 1995 to 1998.  He did his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Cranfield University, UK, in 1987 and 1990 respectively. His field of specialization is Artificial Intelligence. He published more than 30 research papers in Journals of national/international repute and presented more than 40 research papers in national/international conferences in Pakistan and abroad. He successfully supervised 20 MS/M.Phil. graduates in research area of Artificial Intelligence. He was a founding member of the team for establishing the Department of Computer Science, University of Peshawar, and the initiation of Computer Science as a course at B.Sc. level in the Colleges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He designed and started BS, MS, and PhD degree programs in the Department of Computer Science, University of Peshawar. He worked as a member of National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) and the Accreditation Standards Committee of NCEAC for 12 years (2005-2017). He was the funding member of the team for the creation of the Society for Natural Language Processing in Pakistan.
