REGISTRATION OPEN: MOBILISE EXPO ON TECHNOLOGY MEDIATED DISASTER RISK REDUCTION, CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

  • 9:00 am
  • PUTA Hall - University of Peshawar

Keeping in view the plethora of natural hazards in Pakistan in general and the Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in particular, the University of Peshawar-Pakistan has taken the lead to establish the Centre for Disaster Preparedness and Management (CDPM) in 2008. This Centre has been established with the vision to contribute towards national integration and consolidation and help overcome the sense of forlornness and alienation in vulnerable communities under the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Peshawar. Since its establishment, the Centre for Disaster Preparedness and Management has been efficiently playing its due role in research, training and education in the field of disaster management. The CDPM in a very short span of time and scarce resources has successfully launched the country’s first ever BS (4 Years), M.Sc, M.S., M.Phil and Ph.D. degree programmes in Disaster Management in Pakistan. The CDPM is not only providing education to the students but it has also initiated a wide range of training and learning programmes for the teachers, disaster managers, armed forces, practitioners, volunteers and administrators to improve their knowledge and skills in the field of disaster management. The CDPM is currently implementing a project entitled “A collaborative Multi-Agency Platform for Building Resilient Communities” (The MOBILISE), in Pakistan in collaboration with University of Salford, United Kingdom and advisory support of the PDMA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The MOBILISE project, funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) in the UK, is developing a digital infrastructure that can offer intelligence to a range of agencies to work together to reduce the impact of disasters on communities.  The project is focusing on the challenges faced by three low-/middle-income countries (LMICs), namely, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Malaysia. These countries are frequently affected by a multitude of natural hazards including floods, landslides, cyclones, droughts and earthquakes and, therefore, have been chosen as the focus for this research project to capture a broader set of disaster risk reduction and governance requirements common to LMICs.

The Mobilise Project team at the Centre for Disaster Preparedness and Management, University of Peshawar, has organized a one day Expo on Technology Mediated Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation and Sustainable Development on April 25, 2019 at PUTA Hall, University of Peshawar. The basic aim of the expo is to exhibit the technology platforms and research work of the Academic Departments/Centers, National and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities, Climate Change Ministry, SUPARCO, PMD, other relevant government departments, United Nations, INGOs, Local Civil Society Organizations and private companies working in the field of disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and sustainable development in Pakistan. The expo will provide opportunity to sensitize the general public regarding technology mediated disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and sustainable development and will further strengthen coordination among organizations and institutions working in the field. The MOBILISE Project team at the CDPM invites registration forms from academia, disaster management authorities, other relevant government departments, United Nations, INGOs, Local Civil Society organizations and firms/software houses etc. The expo is a good opportunity to exhibit your work and will provide opportunity of Marketing and liaison development.
