University of Peshawar and Asia Foundation signed MoU


University of Peshawar and Asia Foundation, Islamabad have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in order to strengthen  linkages and collaboration between the two Institutes, in the areas of mutual concerns and benefit; to create framework of cooperation between the parties. To create awareness, promote research and students in the field of alternative Disputes Resolution (ADR).TO equip academia research professionals and students with knowledge and understanding of the fundamental doctrines, principles and compliance of ADR mechanism and to import trainings to develop the intellectual practical and transferable skills necessary for that purpose. The MoU was signed by Prof Dr. Muhammad Abid, Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar and Ms Sofia Shakil, Country representative, Asia Foundation Islamabad, on Monday. Director P&D, Dr. Zahid Gul and Principal Law College Mr. Inayatullah Khan , were also present on the occasion.

According  to the MoU, spread of ADR literacy and promote awareness of the available ADR mechanism through publications, seminars action research and other available means will be ensured. To make effort to introduce expand courses and programs of studies on dispute resolution for acquit able access to justice particularly with regards to the rights of marginalized segments who cannot otherwise afford or access the formal system of justice.to align the research Centre with provincial judiciary , academy, judiciary and court annexed mediation centers in district and High Courts bar associations of target district in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa.

The MoU, further states that the two Institutions will exchange experience in designing new programs and identifying faculty members for short-term or long-term teaching assignments. It further states that before any particular cooperative project or program is initiated, all financial details and required logistic support shall be negotiated and agreed upon by the two institutions, with each partner acting within the scope of the resources specifically allocated to this effect by administrative authorities. The MoU shall come into force for a period of 18 months upon the signature of both sides, and shall be renewed with their mutual consent and signatures, and can be amended by written agreement of both the parties, if needed.
