University of Peshawar signs two MoUs with national NGOs to help street children and ageing population relief initiatives at the provincial level


Peshawar: University of Peshawar signs two MoUs with national NGOs to help street children and ageing population relief initiatives at the provincial level. Under the Community Services Program, University of Peshawar, the university will share academic research outputs on ageing population and probable relief efforts through provision of young volunteer’s task force. In this connection, university of Peshawar signs a memorandum of understanding with national NGO,Help Age. The Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Prof.Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan and Country Program manager Waqas Quershi signed and exchanged the MOUs at the ceremony on Tuesday.

The program Manager Waqar Quershi said that its high time to see implementation challenges for KhyberPakhtunkhwa  Senior Citizens Act 2014 in the province and in case of non-implementation , their organization is all set to raise the awareness level for all the relevant stake holders. 

Director Community Services Program, UoP, Dr.Shakil Ahamd said that department of social work has done so far four PHDs  on ageing population issues and will raise awareness through its expertise and liaison with Social Welfare department  for the benefit of the ageing lot.

The Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar said on this occasion that older people issues are increasing in the society due to multiple factors including singularity, immigration, children indifference and others. He called upon relevant partners to holistically follow the relief course of action and advocacy compaign  for the welfare of the senior citizens.

In another MoU, University of Peshawar inked an memorandum of understanding with ‘Cities for Children’ to provide the young task force for the implementation of street children projects in the district Peshawar. The Manager Program Monitoring and Evaluation Dost Welfare Foundation Aizaz Uddin  appraised the members at the signing  ceremony that around 8700 street children are enrolled in the 52 government schools  of district Peshawar where half of them are girls.

The Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar called upon the partnering bodies to furnish effective campaigns for the street living and working children. The University will work along Dost Welfare Foundation for rest of the year on this current ongoing project.
