First Home Coming of UoP Social Work Department Held


The first alumni reunion of the Department of Social Work was held in the lawn of Sheikh Muhammad Taimur Academic Block University of Peshawar. The colorful ceremony was attended by around two hundred former graduates of the deptt. Outstanding accomplishers and faculty members were given University souvenirs on the day.

 

 

Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan was the chief guest of the day. He was accompanied by VC Malakand University Prof. Dr. Johar Ali, member public service commission Prof. Dr. Sara Safdar and In charge Alumni Association Dr. Hussain Shaheed Sherwordi.

 

 

Addressing the former students the Vice Chancellor said that alumni are assets for any institution and the University take pride in your achievements and sense for belonging for this great alma mater. He added that in developed world alumni has a major role in the academic and infrastructure development of varsities whereas in Pakistan the same was not in practice.

 

Dr. Jan maintained that the University has started making closer contacts with its alumni and they would be made part of the decision making process of varsity.

 

Chairman Department of Social Work Dr. Basharat Hussain said the department was established in 1976 with renowned academician H. M. Cloose as its pioneer head. He added the department is offering BS, Masters and M. Phil, PhD Programmes. He further informed that they were soon going to sign a memorandum of understanding with the police investigation department from capacity building of their students in forensics and criminology.  

 

Dr. Hussain Shaheed  Soherwerdi said that alumni is a permanent feature of Universities around the globe wherein they contribute to the developmental projects of the institutions. He added study reveals that 50 percent funding of most developed varsities comes from the donations of alumni. He urged the alumni of the University to support the varsity students by taking care of their financial needs if possible.
