About the Course:
The Two-year MA English course consists of ten papers, and a Viva-Voce examination at the end. All the papers as well as the Viva-Voce examination are compulsory carrying 100 marks each.
Objectives:
The fundamental objective of the course is to prepare students for independent study and to help them appreciate literature on their own, not just the prescribed authors and their works but any work of literature. As such, the main emphasis in Part-I is on equipping students with whatever is necessary to being independent, competent readers and critics of literature whereas in Part-II, the emphasis is on reading works of literature and appreciating them, and to acquaint the students with theories in linguistics and English Language Teaching (ELT) so as to equip them with the skills and expertise to become teachers of English should they opt for the teaching profession.

M.Phil English Literature/ MS Applied Linguistics
About the Course:
The Department offers two fields of study: MPhil in Literature, and MS in Applied Linguistics. Candidates shall offer the required number of courses from either Literature or Applied Linguistics (or both). The Department reserves the right to offer all or some of the optional courses in a particular session, depending on the availability of teachers.
Course Requirements
According to the University of Peshawar MPhil/PhD rules, a candidate for the MPhil degree must attend and complete:
- Approved courses of 18 credits in the major subject;
- Approved courses of 6 credits in related subjects.
- Any additional course work as may be prescribed in an individual case.
- Dissertation

Ph.D English Literature/ Applied Linguistics
About the Course:
The Department offers two fields of study: PhD in Literature, and PhD in Applied Linguistics. Candidates shall offer the required number of courses from either Literature or Applied Linguistics (or both). - Approved courses of 6 credits in related subjects.

About the Course:
General Requirements of the Programme
Name of the Programme: Undergraduate Programme in English (BS English)
Number of Seats: 24
Fee Structure: In accordance with the University of Peshawar regulations
Eligibility Criteria: Intermediate or equivalent with at least 45% marks; preference will be given to students who have studied English Advanced in their Intermediate
Admission/Aptitude Test: Departmental Aptitude Test
Interview: Candidates who successfully qualify the test will appear for the interview.
Merit Formula: (Academic Qualification 40%+Aptitude Test 50%+Interview 10%=Aggregate Score 100)
Assessment Evaluation: In accordance with the University of Peshawar Semester Rules and Regulations
