Materials Research Laboratory

Introduction

Materials Research Laboratory (MRL) is located at Department of Physics, University of Peshawar,Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The initial work on MRL was started in 2005 with the approval of the grant (Rs. 1 m) under the project titled "Office Furnishing to supplement the establishment of MRL". This was actually an initial settlement fund offered to all the foreign professors who joined the Higher Education Foreign Faculty Hiring Program.

The major breakthrough which accelerated the establishment of this Lab came through the Rs. 24.67 m grant as a part of the University of Peshawar 2nd Mega Project. Apart from others, in its initial stages, so far MRL has attracted 10 Ph.D. scholars, 12 M.Phil. Scholars, up to 10 masters project students per annum and several internees. So far 5 Ph.D. and 5 M.Phil. scholars have completed their studies.

Additionally, MRL has played a key role in enhancing the research activities in Materials Science and has initiated projects jointly with technologically advanced countries. The launching of the Journal of the Pakistan Materials Society, in spite of the small number of papers being published in materials science in the region, is another achievement of MRL. In 2008, University of Peshawar approved and appointed staff for the laboratory. The Laboratory remains open from 9.00 AM to 7.00 PM and hosts the Materials Connection Centre as well.
