Convocation Day: UoP Confers Degrees upon 345 Postgraduate Students


Convocation for the session 2015 of the University of Peshawar was held on 30th October 2017 at University’s Convention Hall to commemorate the academic accomplishments of its students. As many as 345 students of the University of Peshawar (UoP) were awarded degrees in various disciplines. Governor Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and Chancellor of the University, Engr Iqbal Zafar Jhagra bestowed the degrees and medals upon the distinguished students. 318 master Degrees were awarded to the students of six faculties and 43 departments. Twenty six outstanding performers comprising 12 female and 14 male students – received gold medals, while 21 PhD scholars and 06 MPhil scholars were also awarded the highest research degrees.

The Chancellor urged the universities to devote their efforts in imparting quality education to youngsters, as they have to compete in the contemporary world. "Higher education is the key to the nation's socio-economic development . Our universities therefore need to pay greater attention to devise educational and research programs relevant to the present and future developmental needs of the country," he added.

He praised University of Peshawar for having won a prestigious niche among the leading universities of Pakistan by providing and promoting higher education amid challenges in the area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

"It is also highly imperative that our universities produce individuals with strong character and moderate temperament to build a just and tolerable society," he remarked. 
Chancellor   said there was no dearth of talent in the country as many talented youth had demonstrated their metal at the national and international level. "We have no dearth of resources, but we are short in the expertise for the optimum utilization of those resources. Better management at all the tiers is a key to national development ," he added.  

While speaking to the students at the occasion, Vice Chancellor, University of Peshawar, Professor Dr  Muhammad Asif Khan, congratulated the students and their parents on their splendid success and said that ` Universities and Institutions have gained significant importance to help impart the requisite education and fostering competencies to make productive citizen of Pakistan`. University of Peshawar is taking necessary initiatives required for enhancing educational research activities. Scholarly research work and other forums of creative endeavors are essential for the sustained intellectual growth of any higher educational institution. He said that `it is a matter of great satisfaction and encouragement for all of us that university is effectively contributing in building up human resource of the country. Our vision is to prepare our students for the national as well as international market, while maintaining high standards of education. He said that new endeavors undertaken by the management of the University with commitment and determination will yield the best results for all the stakeholders and will definitely provide competitive edge to Peshawar University to become the leading University of the country.

Looking at all this it can be said with pride that the University has not stopped its journey of academic excellence and it is hoped that it will continue to strive for further progress in the field of higher education and research. However, this journey has to be made more fruitful through the efforts of all the faculty members and  the students, as no goal can be achieved without mutual cooperation. The teachers, administrators and students have to work together to make the environment of the university more learner-friendly and research-oriented. Then only we can reach the pinnacle of success and I am confident that Insha’Allah we will be able to achieve our goal.
