Research Interest:

Carbonate Sedimentology, Paleocene-Eocence Biostratigraphy

Muhammad Hanif of National Centre of Excellence in Geology (NCEG), University of Peshawar has successfully completed his PhD from University of Plymouth, UK. His PhD was funded by NCEG under HEC approved Faculty Development Program (FDP).

Field of research
Palaeogene stratigraphy and paleoenvironment of the Indus Basin. He used a multi-proxy approach (including biostratigraphy, stable isotopes and organic geochemistry) and his PhD work resulted into high resolution biostratigraphical and stable isotope stratigraphical data across the Paleocene/Eocene interval in the Sulaiman Ranges of Pakistan.
Research techniques acquired and the data produced in this PhD project has direct application in ongoing petroleum exploration in upper Indus basin especially Kohat Plateau and the Sulaiman ranges. His research on past climatic changes has strong implications for understanding ongoing and future climatic changes at regional and global levels.
Dr. Muhammad Hanif has resumed his job at NCEG after completing his degree from UK. Strengthening and upgrading the Palaeontology laboratory of the NCEG is among his foremost targets. He aims to continue his research targeting Palaeogene successions of the Indus Basin. Besides research he is keen to engage in goal-oriented teaching utilizing updated literature base and modern techniques.
